It’s not real secret among my friends that my Mom and I don’t always get along. The times we do, though, are both fun and memorable, and I find that those times come more often as we both get older. Slowly we’ve accepted each other for who we are, and at this point we can honestly say that we’re friends.
While I was endeavoring on this journey to start my own business, my Mom would occasionally ask questions, but had no reference point to know what a ‘stamping plate’ was. I couldn’t show her - we live on opposite coasts. When I mentioned nail polish, however; her interest was peaked: Could I make send her some polish? Had I made any that she liked?
And so I got to thinking - what would my Mom like? When I was growing up, she was all about hues of purple. Lavender was her favorite. Now, though, she finds joy in muddied autumnal shades; pastels that are easily washed away by the first snow fall. So I made Waltraud.
The color reminds me both of late autumn and early spring. A rainbow of color is broken up by muted, pastel glitter swimming in a vibrant green, shimmering base. A sea of flowers, and an orchard’s final show in October, all rolled into one.
Thank you for the inspiration, Mom.
Pictures, as always, by the lovely Maiya from Tarts n Talons.
Polish photo roundup!
Today we have Ocean’s Pixels, The Ice Queen’s Lament, Paint Me Patriotic, and Your Princess Is In Another Castle. I absolutely love seeing my polish in use!
Polish photo roundup! Today the first round of VL polishes made their way to their new homes, and my customers were quick to swatch and share. :)
I particularly love what Annie had to say about some of her polishes:
Your Princess Is In Another Castle: Princess has this amazing depth and luminosity as the layers get built up. I am so much more in love with this color than I thought I would be, and I fell hard for it with the first pic! From a distance it’s pink with black flecks, but you get up close and there’s all these different shades and the big and small glitter, it’s the perfect mix, and then you get the little holo flecks, PLUS the hot pink jelly base, omb it’s heavenly and I can’t wait for skull stamp!!!!
Theoretical Rockstar: Theoretical Rockstar was the first one I did a full mani with. I LOVE it! What I hadn’t noticed in the other pics was this faint dusting of micro black glitter against the silver polish, plus slightly bigger silver glitter, and then slightly bigger white glitter, soooooooooo cool. Again, from a normal distance it registers as sparkly silver with black and white, but then you look a little closer and there’s all this wonderfulness going on.
I am so excited that my polishes are being received so well!
I just got this picture from my supplier of my stamping plates post production. I’m suddenly overwhelmed with this feeling of ‘they’re real! omg!’ and I hope that you all wind up enjoying them near as much as I enjoyed making them.
The plates should ship to me today or tomorrow, and arrive at the end of the week or early next week. I can’t wait to see them all in person!
Okay! Tomorrow night, there will be an updated consisting of Theoretical Rockstar, The Ice Queen’s Lament, Paint Me Patriotic, and Your Princess Is In Another Castle. The update will occur at approximately 3PM PST, and shipment should occur early next week, to allow for PMP to arrive prior to the 4th of July.
Other colors, as well as 5-6 new shades, will be included in an update on my birthday, July 13th.
I just got word from my supplier that my stamping plates will be shipped to me this Friday, which means they’ll be here sometime next week. It’s looking more and more like there will be an update on my birthday, July 13th, which will include both VL001 and VL002 stamping plates, plus a new line of six polishes, and some of the shades that I originally released.
I am so very, very excited, and I hope you guys are, too!
Some very quick teaser swatches. It seems I specialize in low quality pictures! This is why I have my friend take my product photos for me. From left to right on the swatch picture - Daisy, Hurricane Weather, Moonlit Cheshire, and Don’t Forget the Rum (a polish I made to celebrate my birthday).
In another news - I hope to be doing an update that involves Paint Me Patriotic and maybe 1-2 bottles of previously released colors in order to allow customers to wear PMP to celebrate the 4th of July. Following that, a comparatively large update will occur once I finish rounding out the above line of polishes and I have swatch pictures that truly show the potential each of these colors have.
Here’s a quick test swatch of my newest creation, Daisy. It’s inspired by a request made by a dear friend of mine, and I’ve spent several months toying with the idea and weeks trying different glitter combinations. The result is a milky white jelly filled with green and yellow matte glitter, plus white diamonds to signify the petals on this delicate flower.
Well, it’s been a rather long night with no sleep (and too much Kindle reading!), but I decided to be at least a tad bit productive. Comments are now enabled.
In other news, I’m working on a few new polish ideas. The current mix of glitter involves approximately 8 different types of holographic glitter in both square and hex variations. The glitters at the moment feature 4-5 shades of blue, black, and gold. I’m a little bit in love - even the boyfriend was impressed.
And with that, I’m going back to bed!
Last one! This polish she named after me!! Maiya’s Spring by Vivid Lacquers. A silver, iridescent top coat with flakes. In the sun it takes on a teal blue sheen. I layered one coat over Revlon Royal. I absolutely love it!
